About the Event

Co-sponsored by Shantideva Meditation Center

From a Buddhist point of view, the underlying cause of all our negative emotions, of our unwanted pains, problems and difficulties, derives from an active and deep-rooted misapprehension of reality; these negative emotions derive from a misperception that is diametrically opposed to what is actually there. Hence, a major part of the study and practice of Buddhist philosophy is dedicated to counteracting such misapprehension.

During her lecture, Geshe Kelsang Wangmo will discuss some of the principal reasons and debates presented in the Buddhist scriptures that are concerned with understanding reality. Reflecting and contemplating these may enable us to identify the innate misconceptions we hold consciously and unconsciously and to replace them with an understanding of reality—in particular, with an understanding of who we are and how we really exist. This in turn is a key to our personal development, positive relationships, and to living a more compassionate and meaningful life.

This teaching is co-sponsored by Shantideva Meditation Center, the New York City affiliate of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition.
