About the Event
Â
This first course of the Four Year Program in Sustainable Happiness covers the Foundations of Self-Healing in the Buddhist tradition. The cornerstones of Buddha’s therapeutic approach include the healing insights of the four noble truths and the contemplative practice of the four scopes of mindfulness meditation. This course will emphasize how we create our own distress through a chain of unconscious mind/body processes, and how we can reverse the cycle to become more aware, peaceful and content by following a comprehensive approach of realistic outlook, balanced attitude, and harmonious lifestyle. Using the lens of contemporary psychotherapy and neuroscience, Nalanda’s Four Year Program surveys and translates the major stages of gradual path (lam rim) to Awakening preserved for centuries in the universities of India and monasteries of Tibet. Offered through a rigorous curriculum of eight consecutive semester courses, augmented by weekend retreats, the program combines intellectual and experiential learning modalities to provide the depth, breadth, consistency and community support required for lasting results.
