Heart of Devotion Retreat
with Krishna Das & Friends
November 16-18, 2012
This one-of-a-kind weekend retreat with Krishna Das allows participants to delve deeper into the practice of kirtan—chanting "The Name". The workshops are segments of the program with Krishna Das in which he shares his own experiences about the spiritual path and his time with his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba. The workshop includes ample time for question and answers and more chanting. Yoga asana classes provide an opportunity to prepare the body for sitting and chanting. The practice of chanting the "Hanuman Chalisa" helps participants connect with the spiritual aspects of service and devotion, as personified by Lord Hanuman. No prior experience is required for any of the programs.
We are delighted to welcome Krishna Das back to Menla--be sure to join us for this unforgettable weekend!
Krishna Das is known as the “Chant master of American Yoga”. Layering traditional Hindu kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Krishna Das has been called yoga's "rock star." With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das – known to friends, family, and fans as simply KD – has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling chant artist of all time, with over 300,000 records sold. His first studio recording in a decade, "HEART AS WIDE AS THE WORLD" invests KD's magnetic chanting with an electrifying rock 'n' roll sensibility informed by a lifetime of experience and musical love. Full bio is available here.
Lily Cushman and Jeremy Frindel are the founders of the Brooklyn Yoga School, a donation-based school for yogic living. Classical Yoga uses postures, breathing, relaxation, and meditation to purify the body, clear the mind and open the heart. They offer these teachings as a doorway to liberation, and real happiness. Classes are open to all levels. No previous experience required. More information is available here.
Nina Rao is Krishna Das's assistant who tours with him and accompanies him on cymbals and vocals. She has a track 'Nina Chalisa' on Krishna Das' Flow of Grace - Chanting the Hanuman Chalisa. She leads kirtan in New York and beyond whenever there is time outside of Krishna Das' schedule.
