Come practice yoga in the beautiful and peaceful valley of Menla Mountain Retreat. Yoga asana and pranayama lead the practitioner to a place of relaxed inner stillness and space in which you can be truly receptive and have special insight. The particular method of Iyengar yoga helps us recognize we all have access to a calm power of awareness. B.K.S. Iyengar’s teachings emphasize this innate power as both the means and the end of the eight limbs of yoga. Daily meditation practice will further cultivate stillness and receptivity, and we
will join in evening Dharma talks with Robert Thurman.
For those not familiar with this style of yoga, Iyengar yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga known for its use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, which function as aids allowing beginners to experience asanas more easily and fully than might not otherwise be possible without several years of practice. The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old. The development of strength, mobility and stability are emphasized through the asanas. It focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas designed to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being. This discipline is considered a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life which in turn can help promote total physical and spiritual well-being, and it is characterized by great attention to detail and precise focus on body alignment.
Open to all levels!
