About the Event

This retreat will be the culmination of a month of activities with Khyentse Yeshe in North America including the NYC premiere of My Reincarnation at Cinema Village.
Khyentse Yeshe, son of the great Dzogchen master Choegyal Namkhai Norbu, was born in Rome in 1970. At a very early age he was recognized by H.H. Sakya Trizin as the reincarnation of Khyentse Rinpoche Choekyi Wangchug, an important Dzogchen Master and maternal uncle of Choegyal Namkhai Norbu. After receiving a Western and Buddhist education, Yeshi studied philosophy at Rome University and engineering at Bologna University, subsequently working as a manager and I.T. business consultant.
In 2007 Khyentse Yeshe visited central Tibet where he received a rapturous welcome at the monastery of his predecessor. Following a number of clear and important dreams, he then recognised that his life's work lay in keeping the Dzogchen Teaching and Dzogchen Community alive. Since this time, he has travelled extensively giving Dzogchen teachings worldwide. Due to his Western upbringing, his contemporary style offers a fresh and direct insight into the Dzogchen tradition.

Dzogchen is an ancient spiritual teaching developed in Tibet within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It does not belong to a school or religious system. Rather, it is the knowlege that Tibetan masters have transmitted without being limited by sectarianism. The word 'Dzogchen', meaning 'total perfection', actually refers to the true inherent nature of all beings, their primordial state, which is free from all limitations and conditioning. The master's transmission of this state of knowledge lies at the very heart of the Dzogchen teachings. For more info visit Tsegyalgar.org.
The Dzogchen tradition has been passed from master to student in an unbroken lineage over the centuries, right up to the present day. Due to its direct and unelaborate approach, it transcends cultural boundaries making it accessible to all nationalities regardless of their spiritual background.
My Reincarnation is an epic father-son drama spanning two decades and three generations. The film follows the renowned reincarnate Tibetan spiritual master, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, as he struggles to save his spiritual tradition, and his Italian born son, Yeshe, who refuses to follow in his father’s footsteps. My Reincarnation will open theatrically in New York City at Cinema Village (www.cinemavillage.com) and in Los Angeles at Santa Monica Laemmle Cinema on October 28, 2011 and continue to screen in theaters across the country.
