About the Event

 
Based on Stages of Meditation by His Holiness, this lecture series is designed for those experienced in meditation as well as beginners.

Friday evening: Meditation -- an introduction and overview, including the purpose of meditation, what is mind, and why train it.
 
SATURDAY 
Saturday morning: Getting Ready to Meditate, including identifying the nature of suffering, prerequisites and goals (loving-kindness and compassion), and preparation and environment for meditation.

Saturday afternoon: Calm-Abiding Meditation (Single-Pointed Concentration), including the object of the meditation, step-by-step instructions (the 9 stages), a practice session, and Q&A.
 
SUNDAY 
Sunday morning: Analytical Meditation (Special Insight), including the object of the meditation, a do-it-yourself explanation, a practice session, and Q&A.

Sunday afternoon: The Awakening Mind, including the union of Calm-Abiding and Analytical Meditation, Wisdom (understanding emptiness and selflessness), and Q&A.

About the Presenter

Geshe Pema Dorjee was born in Tibet and now lives in Dharamsala. He attained his Geshe degree from Drepung Loseling monastery in India after completing degrees in both Prajnaparamita Philosophy (The Perfection of Wisdom) and in Madhyamika Philosophy (The Middle Way). Amongst his many academic appointments, he was the first Principal of the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. At the request of His Holiness, he founded and continues to direct both the Bodong Research and Publication Center in Dharamsala and the Bodong monastery and school in Kathmandu. He devotes the rest of his time to humanitarian projects in Himalayan India and Nepal and to lecturing in countries around the world, including Sweden, England, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Norway, France, Estonia, and Israel.
