About the Event
Tashi will illuminate the stages of tangka painting. From hand-grinding the pigment, to outlining the Buddha form, to finally opening the Buddha's eyes, there are many stages involved for tangkas to come to fruition. He will also answer your specific questions about the painting process and the tangkas on display. Perhaps he will explain how 24k gold is used to flood Maitreya's canvas with brilliance, or how hundreds of miniature deities are rendered in the lineage tree.
We may even be able to persuade this usually reticent artist to share some of his interesting, more personal stories around the people he has worked with or the challenges of sustaining a school in exile.
This interactive session follows up on the great interest people showed for the tangka creation process during the opening reception.
About the Presenter
Tashi is the master artist behind most of the works in this exhibition. He was a close disciple of Ven. Sangye Yeshi, the man who helped sustain the Menris painting tradition at the personal request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama after the Communist invasion of Tibet.
