About the Event

photo - junger and cohn - detox - june 2010This introductory retreat will give an overview of Cardiologist Alejandro Junger MD’s groundbreaking Clean Program, a 21-day detoxification cleanse specifically designed to restore the intestinal integrity of the body's gut. Unlike traditional cleanses, Dr. Junger’s program has taken the benefits of juice fasting, sun, and total relaxation, and created a unique detox retreat designed specifically for people who want to learn how to experience the many benefits of cleansing while maintaining their day-to-day lifestyle. Junger’s specialty in integrative medicine - practices between Western and Eastern Medicine known as Functional Medicine or “Open-Minded” Medicine – were the basis for his Clean Program. He will discuss these findings and his program over the course of the weekend and will be available for private consultations (fee-based).

In contrast to his book, which describes a cleanse based on whole foods, the Clean Program is a 21-day program based on nutritional shakes and supplements. A typical day consists of the following: a liquid meal for breakfast and dinner and a clean meal for lunch. Supplements are added to the program to ward off bad bacteria in the gut, replenish the colon with friendly bacteria, and aid in the digestive process. The idea of using liquid meals with nutrients that are already pre-digested is to allow the body to work less on digestion and focus almost entirely on detoxification.  Unlike other traditional detox programs, one must not stay home all day while cleansing. The program was created for those that want to continue with their daily lives, but may need a fine tuning as well.

In addition to the Clean classes and special meals, yoga asanas will be offered as well. Jason Frahm's yoga class cultivates a flowing energy of chi kung movement with the classical yoga asanas. There is a deep focus of tapping into the universal ener-chi and using that to expand one's practice. The class challenges one to maintain an ease within while deepening each individual's physical, mental and energetic practice.

Dr. Alejandro Junger graduated from medical school in Uruguay in 1990 before moving to New York City.  The long hours, stress, and change in diet he endured during medical school caused him to suffer from irritable bowel syndrome and depression. Becoming a patient of the system he was practicing was such a shock that it spurred his journey to search for an alternative solution to his health problems. His discoveries are the subject of his first book, Clean. He now lives in New York City, where he practices at the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center.

Chef Dalia Cohn is a Raw Food Chef and Instructor. She graduated from Living Light Culinary Arts Institute, a culinary school in Northern California specializing in raw vegan gourmet cuisine. She’s also earning a Master’s in Vegan Live Food Nutrition, a program run by Dr. Gabriel Cousens at the Tree of Life in Arizona. Dalia has been a private chef and instructor for the past three years and currently runs detoxification programs, raw food and conscious kitchen training programs at her clients’ homes, and retreats.  She channels her energy, passion, and purpose through her work, making it a simple extension of her daily life.

Jason Frahm has worked in the healing arts for the last 11 years.  He travels the world learning and expanding with masters of many traditions.  During these explorations Jason also donates his time and resources to the local communities in need through his foundation, "The At-Onement Project".  Currently, he is working in Peru with shamans of the high Andes and in the depths of the Amazon.  He has been blessed with gift and encouragement  to share the wisdom teachings of his guides and teachers.
